That would be Sara Rayner
Thanks - itâs a great pot.
Did you have to get creative with supports inside the pot or extra weight due to the planting angle?
No not at all. I had to get creative to fit the tree into the pot though. But supports, no. I have the one tie down that you can see on the front and and two tie downs that are drilled into the deadwood that you can not see. I do have a piece of bamboo under the tree to help a little. But nothing creative. There are no extra weights in the pot or anything like that. Petty standard once I was able to actually get the tree to fit.
Thanks man. I appreciate you sharing. Stunning tree!
Thank you. No problem. Ask anything. I may not know what I am doing, but I can tell you what I do.
Haha - I only ask because for all of the content out there regarding styling thereâs not a ton on the âstylingâ sometimes needed in getting collected trees in to bonsai containers. Mirai obviously addresses this in different videos but itâs cool to see what everyone else is doing.
I brought this tree into my workshop to work on. This is really the only 2nd complete working of the tree. I am trying to get a lot of areas to extend because I cut too much off the first time. This working, I trimmed the downward growing foliage along with the crotch growth that was not needed. There were a few areas that I stopped the extending by cutting the tip growth, but for the most part, I just wired or re-positioned what I wanted to keep. After taking this photo, I see a place that I need to readjust, but that is not that big of a deal.

good progress in two years!
Anxiety has kept me from these forums and Ryanâs videos. But here I am with an update on this tree.
I will have August pictures in a week or so.

Oh man, were you anxious that youâre going to put all of us to shame? Haha, j/k. Looks great man! I love it. My only critique is that thereâs no discernable apex. I love the pot selection. It anchors the composition. Deadwood and live vein interaction isâŚ
I lack confidence in my ability to take this tree or any tree to that next level. I do need to clean this one up a bit so maybe that will help.
Iâd say youâre doing a fantastic job. I get being critical of oneâs self though. Iâm the same way. If youâre a pro member then definitely submit that for the Forum QA. Ryan will have a lot of great feedback and encouragement.
Let me try my best Ryan impression here.
JeramiahâŚwow. What a great piece of material. Youâve taken this raw piece of material and have really done something with it. I love the interaction of the deadwood and live vein here. Is there a way we can open things up to the interior so you can give me more of this? Look at the movement in the trunk and branches. Donât hide that. Letâs show that off and really highlight the merits of this tree. I like what youâve done here on the left side of the tree. I get the feeling that youâre going for a harmoneous design. Letâs commit to that. Give some directionality in the apex. Right now youâve got a vertical line connecting the apex to what Iâm reading as the defining branch here at the lower far right. I think if we open things up a bit to get a bit more insight into the trunk weâll also get a bit more in and out movement in this canopy. Really play up the age and asymmetry of this design. That will get us to the next level of what is shaping up to be a stunning tree! Side note; I hear that Bonsai_Bentley is as super handsome as he is kind. I wish to be like him some day. "
Okay, he may not say that last bit, but we wonât know until you submit this tree.
We will see if he says it or not
It was nice to hear Ryan back up my thoughts of just leaving the tree alone.
If the roots are centrally located and the dead wood on the left is free of roots I would change potting position so that the left portion of base hangs over the pots edge substantially But take it with a grain of salt. Then you could make more pads and the tree would have more. Iâm not an expert. Nice tree
Looks ready for a 2nd wiring/detail wiring.
SUMO!
I love seeing progressions like these. Itâs really educational, and helps me develop an eye for envisioning a design when faced with undeveloped trees. Thanks for taking the time to post all your updates.
