Pot first or design first

Hi all,
I have purchased some small nursery stock and wondering if I should put into its final bonsai pot first then style next year or style first then bonsai pot. I have always done it style first then bonsai pot, but watching Mirai Live has me convinced that if I’m happy with the trunk thickness, elongation etc that I should be beginning to restrict the roots. Thoughts???

Sounds like you’re ready to pot. Be sure to do it at the right time of year for the species.

I’m with @BillsBayou, place in pot if its ready in the spring prior to flushing out. It’s fall so might want to do some pruning and design work.
