Hi everyone I have two maples thats I bought last year from the nursery they has been repotted in good soil and this year they are putting out a lot of new buds they current hight is 150 cm,I want reduce the hight to 50 cm so how can I start cut them?thanks
You’ll have to wait now until the foliage has hardened off otherwise the tree will bleed and will weaken as a result
Thanks, after the foliage has hardened should I cut everything in single time or step by step ?
You can reduce the height by a couple of feet by cutting back to a bud. Then nipping out the leader will prevent it elongating too much. In the autumn you can reduce even further but you may need frost protection depending upon your winters.
