Do you really need low N fertilizer?

LOL… why do you dump it on one side? Is it an experiment to see if it is beneficial or is laziness an issue?

LOL… Neither, it was a convenient spot to dispose of the ash. Took a year or two and a couple of smoked turkeys to realize that the maple grew much stronger on that side and wasn’t as eager to push a flush of growth in early spring(balanced fertilizers in the fall seemed to cause an early push of growth). Now I work it into the garden and around other trees in our yard.

The soil in Denver is an adventure, veins of bentonite clay. The same maple tree will have brilliant red on one side and yellow on the other :open_mouth:.
