Couldn’t really find anything about developing these beautiful trees. Looking for basic information on when to cut buds or if I should. Also branch development

I cut the elongating shoot back to 2 side shoots once it has 4-6 side shoots. I treat mine a bit like I treat my hornbeams and elms - cutting back the growth when it gets long throughout the season. Not sure if this is the best approach, but it seems to work OK.
One thing to keep in mind is that they seem to be a bit finicky about repotting - don’t cut the roots back too hard and make sure they are starting to push buds. On the other hand, I completely bare rooted a piece of nursery stock once it had pushed a fair bit of growth and it sulked a bit for a year and then started to grow again. Not recommended, but possible.
