I recently acquired an Acer Rubrum and I’m trying to learn about the species and plan out timing of work. Does anyone know if Acer Rubrum will bleed like Japanese Maple if pruned in the Spring?
No direct experience, but I would anticipate that they will bleed in the spring. If you can protect from hard frost you can probably prune in the fall and seal (leave stubs on big cuts). Make a couple of minor cuts in the spring and report what happens.
