What kind of akadama for my zelkova

Hi I repoted my zelkova in 100% akadama but in not sure if I’m using the right version of akadama. I have 2 types of akadama. One is soft and i can squeeze it with my fingers and the other is a hard fire version that is hard to break with my fingers. I ended up using the fire akadama…

Did I use the wrong one? Should I use the regular akadama? I get a feeling the fire akadama will take to long to decompose and it will be hard for root to grow in it.

You used the right type, akadama that you can easily break with your fingers will decompose too quick. You want the soil to actively decompose with root growth, not because it is poor quality.
