Acquired this oak last year and previous owner was unsure of its particular species, looking for some help identifying its species!
I looked at 58 Common Types of Oak Trees (Pictures and Identification) and these are the most likely candidates.Chinkapin Oak (Quercus muehlenbergii), Dwarf Chinkapin Oak (Quercus prinoides), Chestnut Oak (Quercus montana), Sessile Oak (Quercus petraea), Portuguese Oak (Quercus faginea), Mongolian Oak (Quercus mongolica), Konara Oak (Quercus serrata), and Vasey Oak (Quercus vaseyana). I would dig into each a bit deeper to compare with your tree. Keep in mind that some oak leaves will reduce quite dramatically in bonsai culture. For example, Oregon White Oak (Q. garryana) will often reduce by 75% or more.
