The recent stream on garden design was timed perfectly for my new garden design build. Open to critique and suggestions.

Nice work!! Can’t wait to have my own garden (hoping in next 10 years, I know sounds ages but it’s work in progress and this is very motivational thanks @MattSfromMI)
I like these single benches/stands around rocks the most. So far only clapping my hands. Post some final pics when finished and we can start with criticism 😉
Well done!

I spy a Narwhal. It really looks top notch. Very well done. I particularly like the use of railroad ties and telephone poles. Thanks for sharing. It’s a good thing you had such an experienced site foreman and the use of all of his heavy machinery. 😉👨‍👦
It was recently pointed out to me that you need to be careful about stands directly against a wall or fence. Lack of light and air on one side makes turning them often much more important or else the tree will begin to grow kinda 2 dimensionally. Ideally, 360 degree access to grow, work and view.

You have some wonderful material. Such a garden is well deserved.

Oh my gosh! Your garden - and your trees - look amazing!! You certainly work faster than me… I began last year, and I’m not that far into the project. Kuddos! Will try to post some pictures by the end of the season. Mine is also inspired from Mirai’s 🙂

Thanks all! @moon good eye on Narwhal, it needs a nice pruning (next spring). I plan to show it for the first time in Grand Rapids, Mi show next year. Also good point on rotation of the trees.

Thanks @SteveU looking forward to seeing your garden. I’ll post more pics of mine as I go.

I need a fence near my trees to obstruct the straight line winds from thunderstorms and blizzards! The trick is to have protection without being detrimental to the horticultural needs of the trees. I have had a problem with fungus because of moisture this summer, so a drying wind is desirable to not let disease get a foothold, and yet protect the trees from flying lawn furniture and small kids and dogs. Kudos to the beautiful fence, and stands, and rock and plant placement!! 🤔 The furniture gets blown about, the kids and dogs travel on their own…

One thing I’ve noticed with a bench attached to my back fence is that the squirrels and/or neighborhood cats are more likely to dig through the substrate.

My 100 pound dog keeps the squirrels and cats to a minimum… also chases the rabbits away.😍

Unfortunately for me, it usually happens at night when the dogs are inside sleeping 😆

Now I’m off to get some chicken wire.

I have used cayenne with mixed results to deter critters. I am experimenting with chopped Habanero and Thai chilies soiled in water and little oil in a spray bottle now. Although not great looking I use 1/4 inch metal screen to cover the tops of pots. The metal keeps out the animals and the fertilizer and substrate in.

I think we are getting off topic, but I too deal with squirrels and had read that any deterrent needs to before their eating and storage habits are set in the season.

Thanks. The area is fully south facing, we’re in Frigiliana Spain. 450 meters above sea level. That’s about 1500 ft. We have a wonderful breeze most days and a humidity of around 55-65%. But boy it does get hot in the summer with temperatures reaching well over 100. 43 degrees centigrade. So shade area definitely needed. I’ll post pictures of how we progress. It’s going to take some time and thought but will be so worth the effort
